Linn, Benton, Albany & Corvallis collaborating to raise awareness

     Recent disasters like wildfires, floods, extreme heat, winter weather and a pandemic along with other threats like earthquakes demonstrate the need to prepare for emergencies and disasters. 

     That is why this September for National Preparedness Month, Benton County is partnering with Linn County and the cities of Corvallis and Albany to raise awareness about how to create an emergency plan, build a kit, get alerts and warnings and know what to do during an evacuation. 

     It is a good idea to make and practice an emergency plan that outlines what to do before, during and after an emergency, and talk about the plan with friends, family and neighbors.

     Putting an emergency plan together should start with a discussion with household members about alerts and warnings, shelter, evacuations routes, communication, and your emergency kit. It is important to consider the specific needs of your household like age, diet, medications cultural considerations, and pets.

     “We want all of our community members to be safe and that’s why having an emergency plan is so important when preparing for emergencies,” said Benton County Administrator Joe Kerby. “Part of being prepared as a whole community involves taking care of each other. Don’t forget to check in on your friends and loved ones during emergencies.
