More About the Plan...

Linn County has successfully completed the process of updating its 2007 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). This work was performed in cooperation with the State of Oregon’s Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD). The 2024 update to the Linn County CWPP is a countywide effort initiated to reduce wildland fire risk to communities and residents, the natural environment, and quality of life in Linn County. A Steering Committee with members representing fire districts, Linn County, cities, state and federal agencies, and other interested parties worked together to guide the planning process and created a plan intended to be successful in enhancing wildfire and emergency response capabilities, increasing understanding of and reducing community wildfire risks, reducing structural ignitability, implementing fuels treatment and reduction projects, and increasing opportunities to implement fire-related projects. The planning process was designed to meet the guidance in the National Fire Plan and the Healthy Forest Restoration Act of 2003 (HR-1904). An update of the Linn County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan [NHMP Web Page] will follow the Linn County CWPP update.

A CWPP is a living document for wildfire resilience and mitigation planning and implementation, which helps meet the criteria of state, federal, and local grant programs for potential funding. It is not a legally binding regulatory document or a comprehensive scientific report.

Linn County Wildfire Ready Night

On the evening of Wednesday December 6th, 2023, the CWPP Steering Committee hosted a community open house at the Sweet Home Fire Station 21. There were 40 participants from the general public and 22 steering committee members and other partners from local, state, and federal agencies, and local and regional organizations and non-profits. Participants learned about the draft Community Wildfire Protection Plan, how to schedule a home fire risk assessment, and shared their priorities and concerns about wildfire preparedness & response.

A copy of the meeting's presentation slide deck and resource sheet are provided in the documents section below.
