Muddy Creek, Bowers Drive Bridge
Project Description:
Bowers Road Bridge over Muddy Creek is on a rural minor collector and provides access for agricultural commerce. The 3-span 90' bridge was constructed in 1966 with concrete slabs supported on timber caps and pilings. Due to excessive decay, the original timber caps were replaced with steel. Temporary repairs and shoring of the timber piles were made to prevent closure of the bridge. The bridge is too narrow, the approach and bridge rail does not meet current standards. The piles are heavily decayed, and in need of replacement. The precast slabs have areas of exposed rebar that are rusting. There are cracks in the wearing surface, and some of the keyways between the slabs are leaking.
It is anticipated that the existing bridge will be replaced with a single-span prestressed concrete bridge founded on steel pileand reinforced concrete abutments and wingwalls. The roadway width will be 32'-0" to support future traffic needs and better accommodate pedestrians and bicycles. The bridge will also include new approach rails and reinforced concrete end panels at each bridge end to minimize bumps that typically form at bridge abutments.
During construction, the road will be closed at the bridge site and traffic will be detoured.
