New Solutions

Overview

New Solutions is targeted to high need children as an alternative to psychiatric residential care. This is a community-based intervention with a high level of family involvement.

Wraparound is a planning process that follows a series of steps to help children and their families realize a life that resembles their hopes and dreams. It helps make sure children and youth grow up in their homes and communities, regardless of who makes up their family. One of the primary goals of wraparound is to help empower the family in a collaborative planning process that helps them to find their own voice and increase their self-confidence.

It is a planning process that brings people together from different parts of the child/family’s life. New Solutions is a program that also helps address the complex mental health concerns for children and their families using the Wraparound process, which involves looking into what types of interventions would be most effective for the client and their family to benefit from.

Some examples of community-based interventions that can be discussed and utilized as part of a Wraparound plan by New Solutions may include Wrap around facilitation, Psychiatric Residential and Treatment Foster Care (Dependent upon needs and eligibility, as assessed by Linn County Mental Health and inpatient programs, such as Trillium, Albertina Kerr and Kairos), In-home behavioral supports (Skills Training) & Peer Support Specialists.

***None of these interventions can necessarily be guaranteed, as many of them, such as Psychiatric Residential Treatment Care and Respite, have their own form of eligibility and assessment performed by multiple agencies***

Wraparound works as a sustainable outcome based service because the high fidelity model supports meeting the self-defined needs of the youth and family, enhancing their confidence and skills to get their own needs met through purposeful transition, and strengthening their natural support network while integrating efforts of the people around them, to result in improved engagement, self-efficacy, social support, and sustainability of positive outcomes.

Eligibility New Solutions

Eligibility determination is based on current mental health assessment & review of acuity factors (danger to self or others, family stress level, history of hospitalizations, involved in two or more child serving agencies) by the Local Care Coordinating Committee.
